Location: Corpus Christi, TX
Consultants: City of Corpus Christi
Contractor: Delta Structural Technology
Completion Date: September, 1997

Description: A high chloride environment in a wet/dry zone caused the existing reinforcing to
corrode. The concrete spalled, causing a loss of load capacity.
Solution: The existing steel was cleaned and treated with a corrosion mitigating materials. Next,
the column was formed and rebuilt using high-strength concrete with a corrosion mitigating
chemical ad-mix added. Finally, the column is confined using Tyfo® SEH-51 reinforcing.
Benefits: The speed of application saved the City thousands of dollars in man-hours. The life of
the structure has been extended for many years at a very competitive price. Chemical treatment
reduces the rate of corrosion in the existing steel, slowing the decay.
