Description: Change of use became a structural concern with the addition of a large filing system
on the second floor. Flexural beam enhancement was needed to accommodate the new loadings.
Solution: 2 layers of SCH 41 carbon fiber, saturated in an epoxy matrix were applied to the
underside of four beams. A final layer of UV protective paint was applied to ensure long-term
performance from the jacket.
Benefits: By using the Tyfo® Fibrwrap® System, there was speed and ease of installation and the
price of the project was kept below that of conventional steel plates. A significant capacity increase
was obtained without adding weight to the structure. Reinforcement was installed at night to
minimize operational disturbance.
