Johnson Control Beams
Location: Port Alegre, Portugal
Consultants: CME - Lisbon
Contractor: CME - Lisbon
Completion Date: January 2002

Description: Six concrete beams with corrosion damage required repair and an upgrade to
accommodate additional loading.
Problem: The beams supporting the roof of this manufacturing facility had become damaged due
to corrosion caused by water leaking through the corrugated steel roof. In addition, the existing
roof was to be replaced with heavier panels.
Solution: The spalled concrete on the beams was repaired and each beam was brought to its
original “I” shape. Tyfo® WS was then used to create a radius in the interior corners to receive the
Tyfo® SCH-35 Carbon System. The exterior corners were brought to a conforming radius by
means of mechanical grinding. Two layers of Tyfo® SCH-35 were applied with Tyfo®
FibrAnchors® installed at the terminating ends of each segment.
Benefits: Using the Tyfo® SCH System, it was possible to complete the repair and upgrade of all
six beams in four days without any disruption to the operation of the facility.
